UAE airports

Airports are the real pride of the United Arab Emirates. The country, which has long invested generously in infrastructure, today has nine world-class airports. The biggest of them – Dubai and Abu Dhabi – are the key transport hubs not only in the UAE, but also in the Arabian Peninsula. Russian airlines fly to five airports in the state: Dubai International Airport, Al Maktoum, Abu Dhabi, Ras Al Khaimah and Sharjah.

The main air harbor of the Middle East, Dubai International Airport is the busiest on the planet, and its Terminal 3 is the largest in the world. Every year, it serves about 90 million passengers from six continents. Without leaving the terminal, you can get a shopping therapy at the giant Duty Free, relax in the lounge or grab a bite to eat at one of dozens of restaurants.

Al Maktoum, south of the city, is the second most important in Dubai. So far, only a few carriers fly here, and the main load is provided by cargo flights – there is a huge logistics hub in the neighborhood. Al Maktoum has three passenger terminals: one for Emirates, the second for other carriers, the third for low-cost carriers. There is a shopping center and hotels.

Abu Dhabi Airport is the second largest in the UAE. It serves about 25 million passengers annually and is equipped with all the amenities: lounges, shopping galleries, hotels, sleeping areas, VIP services.

Ras Al Khaimah Airport is the air gateway to the dynamic resort region in the northernmost emirate of the UAE. In terms of infrastructure it is somewhat inferior to Dubai and Abu Dhabi, but it has everything for the comfort of passengers: VIP terminals, lounges, restaurants, stores, medical center.

Sharjah Airport is the main airport for the low-cost carrier Air Arabia, the third largest passenger airport in the UAE and the largest cargo hub in the entire Middle East. The terminal has a huge Duty Free Zone, a food court and a waiting area more than 1 km long with lounges and prayer rooms.

How many airports are there in the UAE?

There are 11 airports in the UAE, of which only 7 serve international destinations.

Which airport to choose

In recent years the UAE is trying to develop the tourism industry not only in Dubai but also in other emirates. So the question of choosing the airport depends on the region of the country’s planned vacation. If you want to get to the north, which is not yet too crowded with tourists – it is worth flying to Ras Al-Khaimah. If you want to get to know the UAE with a more authentic twist, and have the infrastructure of Dubai on hand, you are welcome to Sharjah, the neighboring megalopolis. For time-tested Dubai and Abu Dhabi, head to one of the airports there.
